Top 5 Wineries in the Pullman, Washington

Pullman, Washington is a location of several breweries within the city and nearby.  It brings many people to the city every year, but if you aren’t into water, hops, and barley, and are more into varieties of grapes, then plan out a winery tour in the Palouse Wine Country. 

Wawawai Canyon Winery

Family owned and operated, the Wawawai Canyon Winery is the first commercial vineyard planted in Whitman County since the time of prohibition.  The Wawawai Canyon Winery has their own vineyard sites on the steep slopes of the Wawawai canyonlands, and they prune the vines, pick the grape, as well as crush and ferment the juice, not to mention aging and bottling the wine. 

The Wawawai Canyon Winery has several types of wine including 2010 Cabernet franc, 2009 Sangiovese, Syrah, 2016 Sauvignon blanc, Malbec-Carmenere, Ittero alli rossi, 2012 Cabernet sauvignon Black wing, 2008 Merlot, Cabernet Blend Red Wing, and Cabernet sauvignon 2004 Reserve.  These vines can be sampled at 202 South Montgomery in Uniontown, Washington, close to the Dahmen Artisans’ Barn. 

Merry Cellars Winery

The Merry Cellars Winery is founded in 2004 Pullman, Washington, and is family-owned producing 5,000 cases annually.  Merry Cellars Winery focuses on varietal character and the true expression of terroir, with gentle treatment in all phases of the winemaking processes. 

The Merry Cellars Winery uses grapes that are hand-picked and hand sorted, with a gentle crushing, restrained pressing, minimal filtration, and a balanced cooperage program based on small barrel Eastern European oak.  You’ll find that the Merry Cellars Winery has many red and white wines and its own wine club, with many events each year. 

Colter’s Creek Winery

Colter’s Creek Winery is located in the heart of Moscow, Idaho, right on Main Street, in the midst of many great places to eat.  In addition to the Tasting Room, located on 215 South Main Street, there is also the boutique Hattabaugh Hotel is located right on top.  Colter’s Creek Winery has several different types of wines available, and there is a wine club as well. 

Clearwater Canyon Cellars

Clearwater Canyon Cellars is located in the Lewis-Clark Valley, a prime grape growing and wine producing region for over 100 years.  Clearwater Canyon Cellars was founded by founders with degrees in wine microbiology and soil science. 

The Clearwater Canyon received numerous awards, like how it was named Idaho Winery of the Year by Wine Press Northwest in 2015 and Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year by Wine Press Northwest in 2020. 

Basalt Cellars

Basalt Cellars was founded in 2003, by business partners who wanted to create rock-solid, age worthy wines.  You’ll be able to find red wines aged in primarily French oak barrels for 18 to 30 months before bottling, and then cellared and released at perfection when the wine is ready. 

The Basalt Cellars has a wine club, as well as a tasting room is located at 906 Port Drive in Clarkston, WA, with hours of Monday through Saturday from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
